Paradise is where it all started in 1942. Intrigued by hex signs that are found decorating the barns of “the fancy dutch,” Jacob Zook endeavored to learn everything he could about these quaint, colorful pieces of Americana. It really began to come together upon meeting Johnny Ott “Hexologist,” who taught Jacob the art and lore of the hex sign. Jacob was then among the first to commercialize the art form and meanings behind the designs with his screen printed designs. His work and legacy is now carried on by Double Distlefink; creating his original ZOOK artwork by hand in Morgantown, Pennsylvania as well as other dutch barn signs, symbols, and stars as well traditional “hex signs.”
